CAD drawings are a widely used common product in the GIS industry, with the industry standard being .DWG and .DXF formats. CAD files of this type can used to export the contents of a vector mapping project, used to produce 2D and 3D engineering drawings or used to plot 2D elevations inside a pre determined title block
AutoCAD preparatory file types are typically created directly from the software in which the data is created. The flexibility of the export allows other CAD based programmes to read in the contents of the file without loss of information. CAD files in .DWG or .DXF format can also be exported from 3rd party software’s for use in AutoCAD and are backward compatible.

As part of Blom’s applications and services for the electricity sector, Blom can provide deliverables which are compatible with the industry standard, PLS-CADD software (Power Line Systems – Computer Aided Design and Drafting), used by consulting engineers who provide modelled powerline information. The information provided by Blom as a result of a LiDAR survey, can be used in a variety of ways and for a range of applications, some of which are listed below.
PLS-CADD is the most powerful overhead power line design program on the market. PLS-CADD runs under Microsoft Windows and features an easy to use graphical user interface (GUI). It integrates all aspects of line design into a single stand-alone program with a simple, logical, consistent interface. Inputs provided by Blom for use in PLS-CADD are typically CAD based deliverables and appropriate exports directly from the LiDAR survey, managed and processing Terrasolid running in a Microstation environment. This can include line vectors and other file formats containing the information required.
